Citations

When an AI search engine answers a question, it often points to sources. The Citations page shows you which websites and pages get cited across the prompts you track, so you can see who AI trusts in your category and where you can earn your way in.

Accessing Citations

Go to AI SearchCitations in the sidebar.

Two Ways to Look at Citations

Switch between two views depending on the question you are asking:

  • By Domain ranks the websites cited most often
  • By URL ranks the individual pages cited most often

Use By Domain to see the big players in your space, and By URL to find the exact pages worth studying or earning a mention on. These are the same citations summarized in the Domains and Sources panel on your Dashboard.

Understanding the Metrics

Each source and domain comes with a few numbers that tell you how influential it is.

MetricWhat It Means
Citation RateThe share of monitored responses that cite this source
Citation ShareThis source’s slice of all citation links across your tracked responses. Citation Share adds up to 100% across every source in view
CitationsThe total number of times this source was cited
Brand MentionsHow often your brand appears in answers that use this source
CompetitorsWhich of your competitors are also cited by this source

Citation Rate and Citation Share answer different questions. Citation Rate tells you how often a source shows up; Citation Share tells you how much of the total citation pie it owns.

Going Deeper

Select any source or domain to open its detail view, where you can see the answers it appears in, the competitors it cites alongside you, and how its influence trends over time.

Turning Citations Into Action

Citations point directly at your next move. If a third-party page cites your competitors but not you, it is an outreach target. If a particular domain dominates your category, it is worth understanding what makes its content so citable. Asky surfaces both as opportunities, see Roundups and Citation Gaps.

Next Steps
